Death Valley Road Trip

April 30, 2008

My first long trip was at the end of March to Death Valley.  I rode a different bike (which had a handlebar I had to reach for - agony) on Friday to Ridgecrest - 380 miles.  I was in pain so Bob offered to take me 2 up on Saturday.  It was a new experience to ride 2-up!

Cool Place Where I work

December 21, 2007

Don't tell me I've gone to the "Dark Side" or start calling me "Darth Marian."  It's true; I'm working for Microsoft now (as a contractor) in Mountain View on their Windows Live Agents team.  It's a very cool place to work!

Charcoal the Borg

November 30, 2007

So I came home from work and Charcoal came in as he sometimes does.  It was dark...he had dinner then sat on the living room coffee table - a slick spot on his forehead.  Oh great...so I whisked him off to the vet and he came home today looking like this...

Come back, TV Writers!

November 10, 2007

Argh!  Just as the 2007 TV season got underway, the TV writers have gone on strike.  I don't blame them for wanting some of the royalties from DVD sales and such.  I say PAY EM THEY DESERVE IT and "we want you guys back!"

New Feature: Kitchen Cabinet Recipes

November 3, 2007

This was a flea market find - a recipe book from Sunset called Sunset's New Kitchen Cabinet Cook Book.  The inside cover proclaims "Now for the first time, SUNSET'S NEW KITCHEN CABINET COOK BOOK gives you all of the recipes published over a period of nearly 10 years - from February , 1929 to June 1938!"  WIth scary sounding titles like "Bacon Delight" and "Nest Egg Supper Plate" I will be featuring recipes here.  So hold on to your fork and get ready to measure your cholesterol levels!

A Goodbye to E.C. (Extra Cat)

May 29, 2007

This cat arrived at about the same time Ariel did; summer of 2003.  He used to be so afraid of us that he would run away if we even came to the window.  Finally, he got so I could get within 4' of him, but never closer.  He showed up about 10 days ago with a broken front leg, hobbling.  Of course we couldn't catch him or help him.  He succumbed under my office.  I feel sad that he would never let us take care of him properly.  So long, E.C.  See you at the Rainbow Bridge!

10000 Miles and counting

October 12, 2006

Well, I have managed to cross the 10,000 mile mark on the bike!  The bike had 1027 miles on it when I bought it; I put 9000 more.  The speedometer is actually 61 miles short of its actual mileage as I had it replaced (it got scratched) and we had to guess now many miles would be on it by the time it came in.  I know, I'm so AR....

Big Head Joins the Family

August 25, 2006

Remember Big Head?  Well, his owner had a life change, moving in with his fiance who is a really nice lady who has a bunny rabbit.  She is also allergic to kitties, although she loves Big Head (aka Frank) and his mom.  They were able to take 'Frank's' mom as she likes to stay outdoors only and is gentle, but Big Head is a big aggressive and plus he likes to be indoors as well as outdoors.

Lifetime Ban from the Pirates of Emerson

October 30, 2005

Well, my biker life continues...my Fremont H.O.G. group does this annual Haunted Hog Run on Halloween weekend, and this year was my first. One of our stops was the locally popular Pirates of Emerson haunted house. Now this is one where you are walking in almost pitch black conditions and guys are leaping out at you making you practically wet your pants. My husband has been teaching me martial arts for 2 years. In short, I popped a pirate in the face...

4th Of July Weekend

July 5, 2005

Wow, what a time we had...there is this annual Freedom Rally in Hollister where, as my friend puts it, 100,000 Harley riders descend like locusts. It occurs on 4th of July weekend. Read about how George literally met 3 couples on the side of the road, befriended them, and we hung out the rest of the weekend...I think this was one of the more memorable 4th of July's I've experienced!

What a Memorial Day Weekend! We rode to my mom's which is about 60 miles away and I got my first taste of freeway speeds and gusty winds. We did get to go down some wonderful country roads and wound up leading a group of other riders which was fun. We did our safety class (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) last week and passed our test. We sure are having a lot of fun!
